PROGRAMME
Client

The Slatter Estates Surfaces team were contacted by Burford School with the aim to transform a derelict and partly used area in the car park into a full functioning car park area for the school. The eye sore was both impractical and dangerous for those using the space. The project was to be completed during a narrow school holiday window.

With a combination of specialist observations and site surveys complete, the designs were drawn up for an all-new layout of the area to maximise its spatial potential. The initial design brief from the client team was to incorporate 45 spaces for vehicles. With our effective spatial design the car park now has a capacity of 49 spaces.

Once on site the Slatter Estate Surfaces contracts team were able to recycle the majority of the existing concrete on the site by crushing it using an industrial machine and then re-purposing it as a sub-base for the car park. This reduced the environmental impact of the project by significantly reducing the project’s waste material and reduced transportation costs, in turn minimising the carbon footprint of the project.

Challenge

The car park was fully constructed using a mixture of the recycled subbase stone and new imported subbase aggregates. The all-new perimeter edging kerbs were supplied and installed carefully and a new drainage system was constructed and completed to provide a positive and effective connection for the surface water to drain away quickly. Over the subbase, we supplied and installed two new layers of tarmacadam, using the company’s fleet of specialist plant and skilled operatives. To complete the car park we laid all the necessary road and car bay markings.

During the construction of the road/ car park the Slatter Estates Surfaces (SES) team highlighted the advantages of creating a new link road between the newly constructed car park and the newly constructed Artificial Turf Pitch (ATP). The benefit of this new link road would serve well as an improved access to the new ATP.  The SES team duly explained the benefits to the client team and duly priced the option of a new pathway. The team were awarded the additional works, which were completed after the full construction of the ATP. The school have been thoroughly delighted with the car park and link road.

All now complete and all looks good. Thank you for ensuring the works were undertaken and completed in the summer holiday window. Thanks all again, the new car park is a huge improvement to the school site and the link roadway to the new pitch looks good. Thanks Simon.
